Beijing, and the people in Beijing

Hey Beijing, my old friend,

In the five years of knowing you, how come I have never seen your entirety, not even a glimpse? You inhabit a land of 16,800 square kilometres yet embodied only two places: my home and my school. I guess I was a little too preoccupied, or trapped, even, in my two duties. I regret not familiarizing with you when I had the opportunities. Now, you have changed too much.

In the five years of knowing you, how come I have never realized how embracing yet indifferent you are? Everyday, you introduce yourself to so many captivating individuals, but I guess you do not form intimate connections with any of them. With you being such a creature of paradox, sometimes, they have no option but to leave you.

Please forgive my irresponsibility as a friend—a friend who did not spend even just a minute understanding you, understanding your history, your footprints, and your people.

You created my memories; now, it’s my time to capture yours.

Nice to meet you, once again, Beijing.
